WARNING Shameless self promotion ahead:
Destiny’s Child has recently released a compilation album called “Love Songs” I co-wrote and engineered track #4, “Heaven” with the extremely talented Alonzo Jackson and Taura Stinson. I had no idea Columbia was going to include our song on the album. Thank you very much Sony Music Entertainment! Read More
I had no plans for Memorial Day weekend. Work-wise the previous month had been somewhat brutal so I was actually looking forward to doing absolutely nothing for the next few days. Doing nothing is figurative for catching up on some reading, watching a bit of TV or taking in a movie etc. I sank into my couch and was thinking about making a dent in an 800 page book on Mao Tse Tung that I purchased many months ago but never got around to reading. Yup. Finish a few books and maybe I can actually be as intellectual as I pretend. Just as I as was about to go dig through a stack of other unread books to find it, my phone rang. It was DJ Higher calling to invite me to hang out with him. He said he was going to be spinning at four different parties and it was going to be fresh and it was popin’ off right now! My excuse to decline didn’t come to me fast enough so I graciously accepted the offer. Besides, who am I to refuse a reasonable request from a close friend. I guess the books and my intellectualism would have to wait.

So I ended up on Monday night in this spot on Sunset Boulevard called Libertine. If my memory serves me, a Libertine is an individual devoid of any moral restraints sanctioned by the larger society. (In all honesty I just googled that bit of trivia). The name is intriguing enough, but I was sure that it held a more intrinsic meaning to the owner. I won’t go as far to say that what I witnessed was a referendum on morality. I will however state that this establishment goes out of its way to distance itself from the plasticized scene sanctioned by the larger Hollywood society .
