McIntosh | iPad iPhone

If you’ve ever lusted after one of those gorgeous McIntosh amplifiers but couldn’t get past the high cost barrier, then check out the next best thing.

(Well not really the next best thing, not even close, but still a high cool-factor.) It’s the AP1 Audio Player app from McIntosh Labs. Now you can own a pair of those signature glowing blue VU meters all for the extremely reasonable price of FREE.

Available for the iPad and iPhone from the app store.

  1. I just installed the AP1 app on my iPhone 5. Honestly, it sucks. It seems to work better on my iPad 2. The whole appeal of this app is the meters. On my iPhone the meter’s movement have no correlation to what the sound is actually doing. On the iPad there’s somewhat of a correlation. To date, there’s never been an update. I guess you can only be but so critical of a free novelty app that no one is forcing you to use. McIntosh probably has little interest in supporting AP1 since it probably adds next to nothing to their bottom line. Even though McIntosh is not know as software developers, we still expect a lot from a company renowned for it’s craftsmanship and quality.
